[Error processing dynamic tag getCurrentAttribute('item','custitem_news_release_date') : record infoitem 41 not found]: Magic Power Coffee contains the chemical hydroxythiohomosildenafil - similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra. When these substances are combined with prescription drugs containing nitrates it can lower blood pressure and lead to a range of risks.
Although no unfavourable incidents have been reported in relation to the product, the FDA officially warned consumers off the brand, sold through online retailers, in mid June.
"Because this product is an instant coffee labelled as an 'all natural dietary supplement,' consumers may assume it is harmless and poses no health risk," the FDA's Centre for Drug Evaluation and Research, Office of Compliance Director Deborah M. Autor said. "In fact, Magic Power Coffee can cause serious harm."
